Mr. Derringer's plays have had the continual
distinction of being presented on both coasts and throughout the country. He has been a produced playwright for
more than 35 years. Starting in 2011, Bill's one act play STEWED PRUNES, won 1st
place and was awarded the title of Fifty7 Productions Best One-Act play of 2011, in NYC's Fifty7 Productions Summer
One Act Play Festival. Ending 2010, Bill's one act play CHOICES, is a finalist in First
Stage's 14th Annual One-Act Contest. In June 2010, Bill's one act play, DESTINY'S ROOMMATES
was chosen to be part of the 11th Anniversary of Short Storiescelebrating
the GLBT experience. The plays will be produced in New York City, at the Access Gallery Space. Bill's
play was one of over 100 submitted plays from around the world. Starting off 2010, Bill's one act play, NEXT
ON ROTATIONwas chosen in the 0 to 60 Longwood Annual Ten-Minute Play Festival, thru Brier Creek Press.
It will be performed at Longwood
University in April.
His play LOVE, IT'S AGELESS
was a semi-finalist for the national Dorothy Silver Playwriting Competition. From over
150 submitted entries, his play, EIGHT IS A CHARMER was chosen by The National Short Play
Festival in Palm Springs, at Playwrights Circle. His
10 minute play, DOCTOR ON CALL, was nominated as Best One Act Play by the Desert Theatre League. For their
Play-Full Sundays at the The University of Judaism presented a Celebrity Staged Reading of his Romantic Comedy LOVE, IT'S AGELESS starring Estelle Harris and Robert Mandan. Bill's one act play BACK TO BACK was chosen
by the Pennsylvania Playhouse for their Tenth Annual One-Act
Playwriting Competition. His children's play A TRUNK FULL OF MAGIC was the recipient of
the Pittsburgh Theatre Works Festival Award for Outstanding Children's
Play.
His one act play, GIRLS ON THE PORCHreceived bi-costal productions. The West
Coast Ensemble in Los Angeles where it was the winner of the Drama-Logue Critics Award for Outstanding Achievement in Theatre.
This distinction was shared with Samuel Becket and David Mamet. After an extended run,
GIRLS was moved to the Beverly Hills Playhouse. Its first east coast production
was at New Jersey's Barn Theatre where it also garnered Best Play.
His one act
comedy THE PERFECT MATCH was chosen to be part of the 15thANTA Matinee Series at the
Lucille Lortel Theatre
in New York City. His short comedy TYPE MOISHEwon Best Play at the Barn Theatre in
New Jersey and its production at the West Coast Ensemble was the Los Angeles Critic's Choice where it enjoyed/received a three
month run. His full-length play, McKEAN STREET was performed at Upsala College in New Jersey. SHOES WITHOUT MUSICwas
a finalist at the JCC Theatre of Cleveland's playwriting competition.
Bill was Playwrightin Residence for three years at the
University of Judaism in Los Angeles. . In New Mexicohe
worked as Chief Dramaturge of the Southwest America Playwrights Laboratory. He has taught playwriting through Celebrate Youth,
at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, and at the College of Santa Fe.
